Sharp has announced the company’s Aquos Crystal handset back in August 2011, and managed to surprise many people by doing so. The Aquos Crystal was a refreshing and a rather odd handset which is easily recognizable. This device didn’t sport any bezel on the sides, or above the display, it only had a rather big chin below the display. This resulted in an odd-looking handset which was rather appealing because of it. Sharp had to re-arrange some things because of this chin, the company had to move the camera, speaker and sensors below the display, which takes some getting used to. The Aquos Crystal was a mid-range handset which sported a really solid set of specs and wasn’t that expensive at all.
That being said, its successor has just got listed on SoftBank’s webpage in Japan. For those of you who don’t know, SoftBank is a Japan-based telecommunications company. This handset actually resembles its predecessor a whole lot, but it sports a somewhat different set of specs, let’s see what it has to offer. The Aquos Crystal 2 features a 5.2-inch 720p (1280 x 720) S-CG Silicon LCD display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card). This handset is powered by MSM8926 SoC, which is actually Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 305 GPU on the inside. The 8-megapixel camera (CMOS sensor) is located on the back of this handset, and a 2.1-megapixel snapper (CMOS sensor) is available up front. The LED flash is located below the rear-facing shooter, and this handset will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The device measures 136 x 71 x 11mm and weighs 154 grams. The Aquos Crystal 2 offers 4G LTE support as well, though that was to be expected.
The device will be released in mid-July 2015, and will be available in Turquoise, Black, White and Pink color options according to SoftBank’s official listing. There you have it folks, this is the Sharp Aquos Crystal 2, yet another ‘bezel-less’ offering by Sharp which once again sports mid-range specifications.
