BLU, who is pretty much known for putting out cheap Windows Phone and Android smartphones, has released another new addition to their Studio lineup. Today, the BLU Studio C is available on Amazon for just $99. Which is a pretty crazy price, and it’s worth noting that is unlocked, no contract. It will work on T-Mobile, AT&T and any MVNO that uses their networks. That includes Straight Talk, Simple Mobile and others.
As far as specs go, the BLU Studio C has a 5-inch HD IPS Display, powered by the MediaTek 6582 quad-core 1.2GHz processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. There is also a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB of storage. We have a 8MP camera on the back with a 2MP front-facing camera on the BLU Studio C. Additionally it’s running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It does only support HSPA+ this time around, no LTE unfortunately. Which is expected at this price point, I think. Even Motorola couldn’t get the Moto E under $150 with LTE. This is also a dual-SIM device, two Micro SIM cards.
The bands that it covers are pretty standard, GSM 850/900/1800/1900 for SIM 1 and SIM 2. 3G Network: HSDPA 850/1700/1900, and HSPA 850/1900/2100. So no LTE, but if you’re in a good HSPA+ area – especially from T-Mobile as they do HSPA+ 42 and AT&T only goes to HSPA+ 21 – you should still have some pretty decent speeds on this device.
BLU is offering the Studio C in 5 colors. Black, White, Orange, Pink and Mint. We actually have the Mint one on hand and have been using it for a few days. We’ll have our review out later today, and you won’t want to miss that. Early thoughts are pretty positive, especially if you are looking for a backup phone, or something for your kids that doesn’t cost $700. Or if you just want a cheap phone for yourself, it’s a great buy. You can pick one up on Amazon right now. No pre-order needed.
