Just this morning we announced that, the new ASUS ZenFone 2 was available in Canada at Newegg, NCIX, Canada Computers and Memory Express. The 16GB version was selling for $249 CAD and the 64GB version would cost you $379 CAD. Just in this short amount of time, you will have to do some calling around to find one, especially in the configuration and color (black, silver, gold and the popular red) you may desire. Some retailers are showing that it is already “Out of Stock.”
It is easy to see why the ASUS ZenFone 2 is selling so fast – ASUS is giving you a powerful smartphone for half the price you would pay for its competition. The main features are the same on both models ASUS is selling, but the innards very greatly – either an Intel Atom Z3560 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage and the more powerful Intel Atom 64-bit Z3580 quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Their Atom chipset is using low-powered x86-based Silvermont cores and a PowerVR GPU. Both models offer expansion up to 64GB of additional memory via a microSD card slot.
These new devices are offered up as unlocked GSM phones with 4G/LTE connectivity. They are ready for clear voice communication and data transfer speeds of up to 150Mbps and LTE Category A+ for download speeds up to 250Mbps. The higher end model is the world’s first smartphone offering 4GB of RAM so you never have to worry about killing the background apps – the ZenFone 2 can handle them. Both models come with a Full HD (FHD) IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 403 pixels-per-inch (PPI) covered in Gorilla Glass 3 for your protection.
The outside of the ZenFone 2 was designed for your holding comfort with an arched backing that narrows down to just 3.9mm at the edges. The volume controls are mounted on the back, a la LG G4 and ASUS placed the on/off button on the top of the device. It not only feels great, but also looks great with its brushed-metal looking finish. On the back, you will see the 13MP camera with dual-tone LED Flash, a large f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. It has a large 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) that allows you to take 140-degree panoramic selfies. The main camera also features HDR Mode, Low-Light Mode and a manual mode. Both models come with a 3000mAh battery with ‘BoostMaster’ built-in for faster charges.
