Yesterday, we saw some photos of what was believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active leak out. Some pretty blurry images, but now we have some HD photos from the man himself, Evleaks. I guess he couldn’t stay in retirement? Evleaks has leaked two colors of the Galaxy S6 Active, which look a lot like the Galaxy S5 Active from last year. There’s blue and white camouflage. Which look pretty cool, but the phone is a bit bulky.
Samsung started the “Active” craze back with the Galaxy S4, and made the Galaxy S4 Active. It was available AT&T as an exclusive – and so was the Galaxy S5 Active actually. The Active smartphones are designed for those that are more, well active. As they are more rugged, waterproof, shockproof, all that good stuff. However they do still have relatively high-end specs. With the Galaxy S4 Active, the only real difference was a LCD display instead of an AMOLED display and a 8MP camera instead of the standard 13MP shooter on the Galaxy S4.
So far we don’t have any leaked specs of the Galaxy S6 Active just yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them identical – or near identical – to the Galaxy S6. Perhaps we’ll have an LCD display instead of an AMOLED again, and maybe a slightly smaller battery. But I’d expect the same Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage inside. It’ll likely be an AT&T exclusive again. We do know this will be available on AT&T, or at least AT&T is testing it, as there is a AT&T logo on the back, as well as “AT&T” in the status bar.
What’s interesting here is that the date shown on the device is Friday, June 5th. AT&T typically releases their phones on a Friday. So it’s a real possibility that this could indeed be available at AT&T on June 5th. If that’s the case, we should learn shortly after Google I/O that the phone is real and get a press release from AT&T. One has to wonder, however, how well these smartphones really do for AT&T. They must sell well enough for them to do a third generation Galaxy Active smartphone.
