Gionee is a China-based smartphone manufacturer which has been rather active in the market this year. The company has unveiled their mid-range Elife S7 handset during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona back in March, and their Elife E8 flagship has been certified lately and will be announced next month. The company has teased the arrival of yet another mid-ranger quite recently, the Gionee M5. The teaser itself has suggested that this handset will pack two battery units on the inside, but other than that, we didn’t know much. Well, this handset has just been certified by TENAA in China, let’s take a look at its specs and design.
The Gionee M5 will sport a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). This handset will be powered by an unnamed quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, and will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed with Gionee’s custom UI on top of Google’s operating system. The 8-megapixel camera (+LED flash) will be located on the back of this thing, and a 5-megapixel snapper will be available up front. The Gionee M5 will measure 152 x 76 x 8.6mm and weight 213 grams.
This definitely won’t be one of the lighter devices around, but that was to be expected considering this thing will ship with two battery packs on the inside, much like the Innos D6000 which we’ve talked a couple of days ago. We still don’t know how big will those batteries inside of the Gionee M5 be, but we might find out soon considering the device just passed through the certification in China. You can expect this thing to launch in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that.
As far as the design goes, this handset will sport very thin bezel on the sides, and three capacitive buttons below the display, as you can see in the provided images down below. We’re still not sure which materials did Gionee use in order to build this handset, but plastic is one of them for sure, which is easy to notice by looking at the images in the gallery down below.
