Android One – Is a set of specifications and rules that are made by Google for manufacturing smartphones in the developing countries. Android One is a project that aims to target customers of developing countries. This project provides a standard hardware as well as a close to stock Android software experience. Android One was launched by Google to reach out to people who never thought of buying a smartphone due to the prices of these products. Android One offers a great hardware with an equally good software to people under $100. This price bundled with the software free of bloatware and other modifications in the User Interface from the OEMs and a decent set of hardware is basically the Android One – all of this under One Hundred Dollars.
Android One started primarily in the Indian Market because a large portion of the targeted customers of Android One is in India. Google in collaboration with Micromax Mobile produced the first Android One device Micromax Canvas A1. These devices were also shipped to Nepal because of the border free trade between India and Nepal. Android One started with India, and then the devices rolled out to Bangladesh and Nepal. Android One was also launched in Philippines and Indonesia with Cherry Mobile One and Mito Impact being the first Android One devices of both the countries respectively.
Google is now expanding Android One beyond the Asian Market. Android One now arrives in Turkey, a very large but a risky market, with the first Android Devices to be around $260. Turkey would be the Seventh country in the world and the first country outside Asia to get Android One. Google’s initial plans of keeping the Android One devices below $100 failed in Turkey, with the Android One Devices crossing the $250 mark. It is all due to the high pricing of Electronics in Turkey. You get a new Galaxy S6 in Turkey for more than a grand, so Android One devices in $260 will be a good deal for a lot of customers there. Android One might also expand itself in Latin America as it is an ideal market for Android with more than 80% share of the market.
