Google somewhat recently released an entire round of new Nexus devices; the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player. There was something different though about the first two devices, something that was not the same as all other Nexus devices before them. That difference was the pricing of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Both of these devices were priced like normal tablets and smartphones as opposed to being priced somewhat cheaply like all other Nexus devices before them. It seems that HTC, who made the Nexus 9 tablet, has realized that the Nexus 9 is just a little too expensive for a good amount of people who like what the Nexus 9 has to offer and would otherwise purchase one. So, they may be getting ready to release a cheaper, lower-end variant of the Nexus 9 called the H7.
This isn’t official news by any means, in fact, it comes from a pretty well-known leaker in the Android community, @upleaks. This morning on his Twitter account he tweeted the following, ‘HTC H7: seems a low-end tablet, release in Q2 2015.’ This coincides with previous reports that surfaced around the time of the Nexus 9s release, which stated that HTC was working on a variant of the Nexus 9 that would be similar to it except HTC branded. What doesn’t coincide with the previous reports is that the rumored device was supposedly going to have specs very similar to the Nexus 9 whereas this newly rumored device is supposedly a low-end device. This could mean one of two things, either HTC has two unannounced tablets in the works or one of these two reports is wrong and there is only one tablet in the works.
The only other bit of information included in the tweet by @upleaks besides mentioning that the device is low-end, is that the device will be released in Q2 of this year. If this is indeed true then we should be hearing something official pertaining to this H7 device somewhat soon. On the other hand, HTC could simply wait until the very end of Q2 before announcing anything about the H7. Hopefully, the first of those first two possibilities comes to fruition but all we can do at the moment is play the waiting game.
