Lenovo is the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, but Lenovo dabbles in pretty much everything at this point. The PC business is still the biggest source of income for the company, but they’re getting really serious about the mobile sector. Lenovo has acquired Motorola Mobility a while back, and they’ve also introduced a number of smartphones this year. Well, the company has had a lot to say at their TechWorld event in Beijing today, read on.
Lenovo has showcased their concept Smart Cast smartphone which is able to project a functioning touchscreen to basically any surface. That’s not all though, the company has also showed off the Magic View smartwatch which sports two display essentially. We’ve covered both of those stories separately in case you’d like to check them out. Lenovo has also introduced a number of laptops during the event, and another interesting gadget we’re going to talk about now.
This China-based tech giant has basically announced they entry to the Virtual Reality game by releasing the Lenovo VR Goggles. As its name suggests, this is a virtual-reality headset which will work with Lenovo-branded Android smartphones. The headset is made out of plastic, and is quite similar to Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. The Lenovo VR Goggles don’t have a touchscreen on them, you’ll need to use a handheld remote in order to navigate the on-screen controls.
The company did not share any specific information regarding the launch of pricing of this product, but they did say that it will launch towards the end of the year, so we can expect it to hit the market in the fouth quarter of this year. Lenovo is selling their products all over the world, so we’re guessing that this virtual reality headset will have a rather wide availability. Keep in mind that this does require a Lenovo smartphone in order to function, so the company probably won’t make it available in areas where they don’t officially sell their smartphones. Either way, sit tight, we’ll report back as soon as some additional info surfaces.
