LG launched its new flagship, the G4 late last month, and senior executives of the Korean firm seemed very confident that it will be able to outperform the sales of their previous generation flagship, the G3, by a significant margin. Of course the glowing reviews and the stupendous market reception that their home-grown rivals Samsung got for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are not going to make things any easier for LG, although, the phone itself has got a fairly positive response from most quarters especially for its camera.
LG has already launched the phone in a number of markets around the world including the United States and now, if reports are to be believed, is readying itself to launch the device in one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world – India. According to sources, the launch will happen later this month, and the device will be priced at around Rs. 50,000 ($785). That will put it at a significant premium to the Rs. 36,000 price tag ($600) that the G3 had been launched at by LG last year.
For the uninitiated, the LG G4 comes with a curved 5.5 inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display, which LG claims, would be significantly brighter than last year’s G3, especially outdoors. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core SoC and comes with 3 GB DDR4 RAM and 32 GB built-in storage. The rear camera on the device is a 16-megapixel one, with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Laser Auto-Focus and an f/1.8 aperture that LG has gone through great lengths to highlight in their promotional videos. Initial reviews of the camera also seem to be fairly complimentary to the Korean giant. The front camera has a large 8 megapixel sensor, capable of recoding 1080p Full HD videos at 30 fps. The battery is a removable one and rated at 3,000 mAh. Connectivity options include WI-FI 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Cat.6 LTE. The phone also comes equipped with an IR blaster, which allows the user to use the device as a remote control. The LG G4 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, with LG’s proprietary Optimus UI laid on top.
