With the smartphone market worldwide getting more competitive by the day, most OEMs have been on a launching spree of late. LG has not been an exception either. Over the past several weeks, the Korean consumer electronics giant has launched a whole host of devices aimed at different price segments, including, but not limited to its flagship device for 2015, the G4. We have seen several mid-range and entry-level devices named Magna, Spirit, Joy, Leon, G Stylo being launched or being readied for launch by LG in various parts of the world on various carriers.
Now, according to new reports, the stripped down smaller screen version of the LG G4 is all set to hit the European shores soon. The device was listed in a Vodafone Hungary catalogue as a midrange device and in all likelihood, will see an official launch sometime during the month of June. The device is rumored to feature a 5 inch HD (1280 x 720) screen and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC. The device might come with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, and feature a 13 megapixel rear camera. The stripped down hardware would be in direct contrast with the G4 specifications even though this version also carries the ‘G4’ tag. Just as a reminder to all readers, the G4 was launched by LG late last month and is available for purchase in most regions globally. LG’s flagship device comes with a 5.5 inch QHD screen and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core SoC. It comes with 3 GB DDR4 RAM and 32 GB built-in storage and the rear camera on the device is a 16-megapixel one, with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Laser Auto-Focus and an f/1.8 aperture.
LG’s new strategy comes in the face of intensifying competition from not just their homegrown rivals Samsung, but also aggressive upstarts from China, who have been eating away at the market share of the Korean giants for a number of years now. It remains to be seen how much of an impact its latest strategy can make in an increasingly competitive market where newcomers like Xiaomi and OnePlus are being touted as the stars of the future.
