One of the advantages of purchasing a Motorola device is the fact that they run almost pure vanilla Android and should receive their updates at a much faster rate. This is usually the case, however, the updates do have to be approved by the carrier of said device, and in this case, with the Motorola DROID Turbo, it is an exclusive on Verizon, who is notoriously slow in pushing out updates. But this is starting to get ridiculous, even for a Verizon device, running almost pure-stock Android to be into May and still no Lollipop. The only saving grace (if you could call it that) is that a tweet today from Motorola reminds us that the upgrade will be directly to Android 5.1, bypassing the somewhat buggy 5.0, 5.01 and 5.02. No timeframe is given, as it says, “We’re working w/our partner on upgrading #DROIDTurbo directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1. Stay tuned for updates.”
It is really a shame that a device as nice as the DROID Turbo has had to wait this long to get its Lollipop upgrade, and it is possible the constant complaints of the users prompted them to ‘remind’ angry users that the upgrade is coming and that the wait will be worth it because the update will be jump directly to 5.1. It will be quite a change from KitKat to Lollipop when the upgrade hits their devices with Google’s new ‘Material Design’ and all of the changes…read that as improvements…it brings to the performance and interface. The power of the DROID Turbo combined with Android 5.1 should make the users very happy.
