Samsung Reveals Faster 4K UHD Compatible SD And MicroSD Cards

As we move into new media formats and content, the need for peripherals and devices to run these formats grows expediently. For example, we have moved on from the standard 1080p high definition video format to a newer 4K Ultra High Definition or better known as 4K UHD. 4K UHD is still rather new though it’s making its way in full force throughout markets all over so it would make sense that companies start releasing more 4K UHD compatible devices. In this case, Samsung has revealed brand new SD and microSD cards that are not only compatible with storing 4K UHD but will also allow faster writing and reading speeds.

Samsung announced that they are releasing two new models of SD and microSD cards. The more premier model is the Pro and Pro Plus lineup which will offer 32GB and 64GB variants in both SD and microSD formats. This Pro Plus lineup in particular has been stated to allow for 95 MB/s for reading and 90 MB/s writing speeds along with capability of recording up to 110 minutes of 4K UHD for the 64GB variant. However, if you would rather record video media content in Full HD then consumers will be able to store up to 490 minutes of video.

The EVO and EVO Plus is the other lineup announced from Samsung. Both the SD and microSD cards come at a slightly slower read and write speeds with 80 MB/s and 20 MB/s respectively. Although, unlike the Pro Plus lineup, Samsung is offering consumers 32GB, 64GB and 128GB card variants.

It will be worth noting that, even though, these new card lineups are compatible with recording and storing 4K UHD content, they will also be compatible with any device. Samsung noted in their press release that the Pro, Pro Plus, Evo, Evo Plus was designed to be compatible with any device that contains an SD or microSD slot, regardless of OEM brand. Additionally, Samsung has revealed that they have safely protected these cards from any various accidents you might have. All of these cards mentioned will be manufactured with waterproof, temperature proof, X-ray proof, magnetic proof, and shock proof in mind.

Though no specific date was given, Samsung will be releasing these new SD and microSD cards later this month in various global markets including Korea, United States, China, and Europe.
