Sony is one of the biggest tech companies in the world, and yet they’re not doing all that well in the mobile space. Sony Mobile has been having issues turning a profit for quite some time now and the company was forced to cut costs several times last year. This Japan-based company has said that they’ll focus on the US market and high-end devices, so it remains to be seen what Sony is planning for the future. That being said, the company has made a couple of rather odd moves recently. They have announced their new Xperia Z4 flagship in Japan without the proper pre-launch marketing, so very few people knew that the handset is getting announced. To make things even more weird, that handset is a Japan exclusive, and the reports were saying that the international variant will arrive later in the year.
Well, Sony has just scheduled a press conference for May 26 in New Delhi, India. The invitation suggests the announcement of a waterproof device, which doesn’t really say all that much considering that Sony has a ton of waterproof devices in their lineup, but we’re guessing this has something to do with the announcement of the international version of Xperia M4 Aqua. This is a mid-range offering by Sony which was announced back in March, and it seems like the handset will reach India on May 26th. The M4 Aqua features a 5-inch 720p IPS LCD display, 2GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB of expandable internal storage. This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor and it is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes of submersion. The 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this handset (LED flash included), and a 5-megapixel shooter is available up front. This handset ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sony’s UI on top of Google’s operating system.
There you have it, the launch of M4 Aqua seems rather certain at this point. It is also possible that Sony might announce the international variant of their Xperia Z4 flagship, but that seems unlikely at the moment. Either way, we’ll let you know as soon as we stumble upon some additional info.
