For owners of Nexus devices, this week has been the week of the Android 5.1.1 updates. In fact, it all actually started this week when Wear devices saw the 5.1.1 update coming through. Of course, they were all pipped to the post by Android TV, with the Nexus Player being the first device to see the 5.1.1 update landing. Either way though, by mid-week came the news that the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 9 were all receiving their updates bringing the devices to the latest version of android Lollipop.
That said, the Nexus 6 is still waiting for its update to land. Of course, as this is a Nexus device which is available on multiple carriers, there is always the added issue of carrier’s rolling out the updates. However, this is the flagship Nexus device and therefore owners of the Nexus 6 are probably waiting and expecting their update to come anytime soon. Especially, as the other Nexus devices seem to be getting theirs and especially when two days ago saw the changelog for the Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 update going live. Well, it does seem that owners of the Nexus 6 will be getting their updates soon enough. Early this morning came the first indication that Android 5.1.1. is en route to the Nexus 6. This was when a tweet was sent out by T-Mobile’s consistent information provider, Des. The tweet alluded to not just the fact that the Nexus 6 will see an update landing this weekend but will also see WiFI calling (a long-awaited feature for the device on T-Mobile) landing as well.
Well, the latest coming in is that it will not be only T-Mobile Nexus 6 owners seeing their Android 5.1.1 update landing in the next few days. A leaked Sprint memo picked up by Android Police (source link below) clearly seems to suggest that Sprint owners of the Nexus 6 will see their update landing on May 26th. Which is Tuesday for those who would like to know. So, if the memo is correct, then it looks like Sprint Nexus 6 owners will be a day or two behind T-Mobile Nexus 6 owners in receiving their update. For those who are interesting, the Sprint memo states that the build number for the update is LMY47Z.
