Those of you that picked up the HTC One E8 over on Sprint, will be happy to know that the Lollipop OTA is going to be beginning today. According to Mo Versi who is the Vice President of Product Management at HTC, they have received technical approval with the update beginning today. For those that might be wondering, the build is going to be 2.32.651.7. It’s likely to be a pretty hefty update, so make sure you are on WiFi before attempting to download it. We’ve seen other HTC Lollipop updates up near the 1GB mark, so it’s definitely going to take a bit to download and to install on your HTC One E8.
A lot of the features that you’ll find in the Lollipop update are actually behind the scenes update, meaning they are going to provide performance enhancements. You’ll also be getting Smart Lock, which allows you to keep your phone unlocked when it’s connected to a Bluetooth or NFC device. There are also improved notifications on the lock screen. So now you can see your notifications on the lock screen as well as expand them. Additionally quick settings has been improved. So instead of using two fingers to swipe down or tapping the icon in the upper right hand corner, just swipe down your notification shade and you’ll see the Quick Settings up top. The update will also work with all the HTC apps that have been updated recently. This update does not include Sense 7 however, that update will be coming later this summer. It appears to be coming around the end of August for the HTC One M8, so I’d expect a bit later for the One E8.
If you’re on Sprint with the HTC One E8, head into Settings > About Phone > System Updates and Check for an update for your device. You should see the update available, if not just check back again later. The rollout shouldn’t take too long this time around, as the HTC One E8 isn’t a super popular device, especially when compared to the HTC One M8.
