It’s probably not a good idea to take screenshots while you’re driving, which is likely why it’s so hidden in the settings. But there is a way to take a screenshot with Android Auto. It actually took me a few weeks to figure it out, but I have figured it out, and we’re going to walk you through the process.
First of all, inside the Android Auto app, the picture at the top will need to be tapped about 7 times, to enable developer settings. Now you’ll have a new option in the overflow menu at the top, not so surprisingly named “Developer Settings”. If you tap on that, you’ll see a whole bunch of other interesting settings. The one we’ll be messing around with is “Share Screenshot”.
If you want to share a screenshot of your current Android Auto screen, simply tap on “Share Screenshot” now this does take a few minutes for it to grab the screenshot. So if it seems like it didn’t register your tap or something, don’t worry about it. It will come up with the share dialog box pretty soon, so you can share it on Google+, Dropbox, Twitter, or anywhere really. And that’s pretty much it. One of the things I have noticed though, is that some phones are slower with Android Auto than others. For instance the LG G4 and HTC One M9 are pretty slow, however the Xperia Z3 and Nexus 6 are pretty speedy, it probably has something to do with the processors.
It’s also important that we remind you that it’s not safe to do this while driving. So make sure you do this while parked or at least pulled over.
