Another day and that means another dose of Android 5.x (Lollipop) news is coming through. That said, it is probably much more accurate to state, another dose of Motorola Android 5.1 (Lollipop) news is coming through. For the best part of the last week, Motorola Android 5.1 news has been coming thick and fast with announcements coming in for a number of devices. Following on from all of this, the latest news directly concerns owners of the AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen).
The usual suspect, David Schuster sent out an announcement this morning detailing that the AT&T 2nd Gen Moto X had begun its soak testing of Android 5.1. However, the dust had barely settled from that announcement when the Schuster Google+ post (and the Motorola support pages) were updated stating that the update was now open to all. As such, the latest coming through from Motorola is that the Moto X (2nd Gen) is in the process of receiving its Android 5.1 update. According to the details, the update comes with version number 23.16.2 and looks to be weighing in around the 510MB marker. Not to mention, Motorola advise that you do need to be on WiFi to be able to pull the OTA. As to be expected, the update will include a number of features and improvements which have been widely covered of late and pretty much in line with what was reported over the weekend with the Verizon version of the device and its respective update. For those that missed the Verizon coverage, the Verizon Moto X (2nd Gen) has been soak testing all weekend and saw its update finally becoming available yesterday.
So there you go, if you own an AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen), then it looks like your update is good to go. As per usual, you will need to manually check if the update is ready and waiting on your device by heading over to the About Phone section of the settings. If it is not there yet, then don’t worry as the update can take some time in reaching certain devices. For those owners, you can always sit tight and wait for the prompt to hit your device advising that the update is ready to install.
