AT&T's Galaxy S6 Active Is Now Available

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Active has been one of the most leaked devices in recent times, so we were expecting its official announcement at any moment. It finally happened four days ago and now it’s available as promised exclusively with AT&T, just like the previous two versions of this more resistant model. Of course, the design had to suffer modifications, because the current design of the Galaxy S6 (or the Galaxy S6 Edge) made out of glass in front and back enclosed with a metallic frame doesn’t necessarily scream high-durability.

The specs on the Galaxy S6 Active are pretty much the ones found on the more fragile version, including a 5.1-inch screen with Quad HD resolution covered with Gorilla Glass 4 and instead of capacitive system buttons, the Home, Back and Recent Apps buttons are now hardware buttons. Its processor is the same Samsung-made Exynos 7420 octa-core processor with 64-bit architecture along with 3 GB of RAM. It doesn’t include a memory card expansion slot, so you’re stuck with whatever is left of the 32 GB included, there are no additional memory options. The cameras keep the same resolution, the main one being 16-megapixels although it is not specified if it includes the OIS and a 5-megapixel sensor in the front. It is even mentioned that a wireless charging compatible back is included.

The device’s resistance is granted by the IP68 certification against dust and making it water-proof, the device can actually be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes in a 1.5 meters of depth. Also, it meets US MIL-STD-810G requirements, making it resistant to vibrations and extreme temperatures, plus, if it is dropped from less than 4 feet, it should resist that hit just fine. The other big difference when compared to the regular Galaxy S6 is that instead of including a non-removable 2550 mAh battery, while still being non-removable, the Galaxy S6 Active’s battery has a larger capacity of 3500 mAh giving users almost 24 hours of talk-time. The hardware comes in 3 different color options, Gray, Camo Blue and Camo White. Its price is $694.99 without a contract or $199.99 with a 2-year contract. Next payment plans are also available, in case you want the price of the phone divided into monthly payments.
