In less than a week’s time, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Coolpad is expected to announce the next smartphone as part of its Ivvi range of handsets. As expected, the leaks have already started pouring in, and although we are still uncertain about the name of the new Ivvi smartphone, we now have a bunch of images circulating online, which are said to be of the upcoming device. The images give us an insight into some of the impressive features of the phone. One of the images shows a metallic finish on the back of the device with “iVVi” emblazoned on it, although it’s hard to say whether the phone actually sports a metallic body, or if it’s just plastic with a metallic finish.
The handset comes with a near bezel-less design, and a fairly large display featuring 2.5D glass, which is becoming more common with current generation flagships. The phone also seems to be remarkably thin, which seems consistent with previous rumors indicating that the phone might measure only 4.9 mm in thickness. If the phone does indeed turn out to be that thin, it won’t be surprising, as Coolpad has a proven history of churning out ultra-thin devices under its Ivvi brand. The Ivvi K1 Mini, which was launched earlier this year, was touted to be the world’s thinnest smartphone at only 4.7 mm thickness at the sides. While not much else is known about the upcoming device including its hardware specifications or pricing, we will not have to wait very long for all of that information, as the device is scheduled to be launched in a less than a week’s time anyways.
With increasing competition and reducing margins in the domestic market, most smartphone manufacturers in China are looking to reshuffle their strategies and are either launching new brands or seeking greener pastures abroad – or both. In recent months, Coolpad has joined a hoard of Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Meizu, Oppo, Gionee and others to have looked to spread their wings outside of their home base, and have launched their brands in markets as diverse as India, Brazil and Turkey. The company also recently announced that it has tied up with security software maker Qihoo 360 to launch a new premium smartphone brand, QiKU, in order to hopefully increase margins, going forward.
