Dropox Redesigned Its App For Android

Cloud storage has become more popular as mobile devices and mobile connectivity became more affordable and reached a wider availability. Among its many advantages is that users could use that space as a backup and since it is not in a physical device, those files could be accessed with many more devices connected to the internet. Sharing is also easier as users can upload large files and another user can download them. It allows to store the progress of a game or even the settings and preferences of a device so the transition to a new one is easier. Also, a lot of users can contribute in a single Word document or PowerPoint presentation and make changes in real-time.

Dropbox is one of the more popular cloud-based file hosting systems, it works in many platforms so it is compatible with a wide range of devices and since it was introduced in 2008, it has added many functions to make the mobile app more useful. The company has always used a very simplistic and clean design, which works because it put the user’s files first, but now Dropbox has redesigned its Android app using more Material Design elements to further enhance the functionality while making the app work faster and better.

The new design is thought to bring more elements more accessible bringing them right up front instead of having them in a pull down menus so fewer clicks are required. They added a “plus” button to take a picture and it will be saved right into that folder, even shared folders so more users will be able to see it, and it saves some space from the device’s memory. The search button is now located in the top menu and it can search for words within documents while navigation has been made easier by the use of swipes to see the different folders. The share icon has also been located in the top menu and is accessible from any screen while more information regarding the files is given. The update will be available in the next few days in the Play Store so it can be downloaded right there.
