After months of leaks and rumors, Gionee has finally launched their Elife E8 and Marathon M5 handsets. The Elife E8 is the company’s new premium-built flagship, and the Marathon M5 is a mid-range smartphone which features two 3,010mAh batteries (6,020mAh overall) on the inside. We’ve already covered the initial launches of these two handsets, and even took a closer look at the Marathon M5. Well, it’s time to take a better look at Gionee’s new flagship, the Elife E8.
The Elife E8 is a high-end smartphone, no matter how you look at it. This 6-inch phablet is made out of metal, and it has a rear-facing fingerprint scanner which is located below the camera sensor. The volume rocker, power / lock and camera shutter buttons are all located on the right side of this device. We really don’t get to see many smartphones ship with physical camera shutter buttons these days, so it’s nice of Gionee to include that in the Elife E8. The Elife E8 has thin side bezels, but they’re still very much visible. The phone looks very sleek overall, though it’s nothing to write home about in terms of the design.
The Gionee Elife E8 sports a 6-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED panel along with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of in-built storage. MediaTek’s Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit octa-core processor fuels this handset, and a 3,520mAh battery is also a part of this package. The Elife E8 ships with two SIM card slots, and offers 4G LTE connectivity. On the back of this handset, you’ll be able to find a 24-megapixel OIS shooter which snap images of up to 120-megapixels thank to Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) tech. The 8-megapixel shooter is available on the front of Elife E8, and the device will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop along with Gionee’s Amigo OS 3.1. The phone measures 164 x 82.3 x 9.6mm, and it weighs 207 grams.
The Elife E8 costs 3,999 Yuan ($644) in China, and will be available starting July 15. The phone will initially rollout in China, and other markets will follow.
