Gionee Marathon M5 Gets The Hands-On Treatment In China

Gionee has announced the company’s Elife S7 mid-range offering back in March during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. This China-based smartphone OEM has been teasing the release of their Elife E8 flagship for a long time now, and they’ve also been teasing the arrival of Marathon M5 handset for a couple of weeks as well. Well, the company has unveiled both of those handsets yesterday, and we’re here to talk more about the dual battery Marathon M5 offering.

The Marathon M5 sports solid mid-range specs, but that’s not the point here, the M5 is rather unique because of its dual battery setup on the inside. This smartphone utilizes two 3,010mAh batteries on the inside, which means it ultimately ships with a 6,020mAh battery, which should be more than enough to suit your needs, no matter how heavy you’re using the device during the day. Anyhow, we didn’t have that many images to share during the launch of the device, but the first hands-ons started popping up in China, so we might as well take a better look at it now.

If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll find a number of Marathon M5 images, courtesy of IT168. The Marathon M5 actually sports a metallic trim, and both the power / lock and volume rocker buttons are located on its right-hand side. The 3.5mm headphone jack is available up top, and there are three capacitive buttons below the display: overview (recent apps), home and back buttons.

As far as this handset’s specs go, the Marathon M5 features a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor, and it will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed with Gionee’s Amigo OS on top of it. This is a dual-SIM smartphone which offers 4G LTE connectivity, sports 13 and 5-megapixel cameras on its back and front, respectively. The device comes in Black, White and Gold color options, and you’ll already able to pre-register for this handset in China for 2,299 Yuan ($370), in case you’re interested, of course.
