Samsung is currently the number one smartphone OEM in the world. This Korean tech giant tends to release a lot of smartphones a year, along with all sorts of other tech actually. Samsung has already unveiled their 2015 flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The company is nowhere near done announcing devices though, the high-end Galaxy Note 5 phablet is due to arrive in September, and Samsung will almost certainly announce at least a couple of smartphones until then.
That being said, Samsung also releases a ton of mid-range smartphones every year, and Galaxy Grand Prime is definitely such a device. This smartphone was announced back in September 2014, and has been selling relatively well in emerging markets despite everything. Well, if the latest report is to be believed, the company is preparing to launch a new variant of this device called the Galaxy Prime Value Edition. It seems like this device was certified in Taiwan under the model number SM-G531Y, and you can check out the alleged image showcasing this device above this article. There’s not much to see here though, the device looks basically identical to the regular Galaxy Grand Prime.
According to the source, the phone will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI will be installed on top of it, of course. What about the specs? Well, the specs will be similar to the regular edition of this device, perhaps even identical (aside from Android version). As a reminder, the Galaxy Grand Prime sports a 5-inch qHD (960 x 540) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. This device is powered by the Snapdragon 410 64-bit octa-core processor, and it packs a 2,600mAh battery on the inside. The 8-megapixel camera is located on the back of this smartphone, and a 5-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Unlike the upcoming Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition, the regular variant shipped with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
There you have it folks, the Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition seems to be on its way, and you can expect it to be extremely affordable and available in emerging market. Either way, we’ll report back as soon as additional info surfaces, stay tuned.
UPDATE: New info surfaced. According to WinFuture, this handset will be powered by a Marvell PXA1908 64-bit quad-core SoC, instead of the Snapdragon 410. There are also a number of renders included in the gallery down below.
