If you play video games, you may be familiar with GameFly, the service which lets you rent video games in disc format similar to the way Netflix did it for movies and tv series, which you can keep for as long as you like and then send back to get the next game in your queue. GameFly is taking things to the next level and is debuting a game streaming service where you can rent games to stream and play instead of waiting for the physical discs to make it out to you through the mail, and they have announced that they’re bringing the service to the US via the Amazon Fire TV platform, making it even easier to stream games if you have the device.
Starting titles range from games like F.E.A.R. 3 to Sleeping Dogs, and just like with Netflix there is a range of different packages from which you can choose. Price points for GameFly’s streaming service via Amazon Fire TV will start at $6.99, although it will be a little bit different than some might expect, as that price won’t let you choose which games to stream at your leisure, rather it will include a preselected collection of games as the service is splitting available titles up into different packs. The first pack at the $6.99 price is called the Action Pack and offers 7 titles which includes the first two games mentioned above, as well as other action-based games like Hitman and Mafia II.
From there gamers can choose the adventure pack, the gamer pack, the speed pack, the fun pack, or the LEGO pack, each with a collection of games themed to the type of pack they’re contained in. All packs will include 7 titles each, except for the gamer pack which includes a total of 16 games to stream and play. The gamer pack is also the only pack which will cost $9.99 a month to access, at least for now. GameFly states that there will be more games added to the new streaming service soon, but those listed on their info page are what is available at launch. The service begins on the Amazon Fire TV starting today and the app should be available in the Fire TV app store as of now.
