Google has announced that they are expanding their data center within Asia. With this new expansion, online users within Asia will find their services will run much faster, but it’s also important to note that the expansion not only will help those within Asia but residents outside in different regions as well. Set to take place in the next couple years, Google will have spent over $1 billion to open up and bring their data center allocated in Taiwan. Interestingly enough, the original data center being expanded on have only been operable for just shy of two years.
It was only a couple years ago that Google was in the market for adding a third data center within Asia. In fact, the location that was more desired for a new data center by Google was within Hong Kong but the deal never went through. Instead of paying for new estate within Hong Kong, Google plans on spending over $500 million to expand on their Singapore Google data center. This new particular building that will expand on their already established data center will be located right next door of the original building.
It’s important to note that Google’s data centers placed within Asia will help an abundance of people. Not only will this expansion allow more consumers to connect on the internet, those who already have an established internet connection will notice a speedup with web pages and Google services. Additionally, this will also help residents outside of Asia. For example, data centers within the United States and Europe also serve consumers within Asia and vice versa. Everyone across the board seems to be making a slight improvement from these data center expansions. Of course, there is the curious question as to why the sudden expansion on the data centers to begin with. After all, Google turned down the installment of a third data center in Asia just a couple years ago. Thanks to mobile smartphones and tablets, more consumers around the world are connecting to the internet for the first time ever. To account for these new connections and assure everyone is receiving data effectively and as quickly as possible, Google likely decided to start on the overhaul.
