LG G Watch R No Longer Available From The Google Store

Google’s attempt at unifying the smartwatch realm, Android Wear, and the smartwatch scene, in general, has been one that has seeing massive momentum in the last six months. What was almost a niche industry this time last year, is now looking at becoming an increasingly standalone industry going forward. Of course, one of the reasons behind the big push for smartwatches is the sheer abundance of watches that seem to be hitting the market of late. Compared to the likes of Android Auto or Android TV, the smartwatch platform has seen new devices coming continuously in the last few months. In fact, a number of the devices seem to be coming from the same manufacturers.

LG are a prime example of one of those companies who are very keen interest in bringing a number of wearables to the market and have already introduced a number of options. The only issue with bringing so many wearables to the market and so quickly in succession is that the older ones quickly fall out of favor. For instance, Motorola’s Moto 360 is the only smartwatch Motorola have brought to the market in the last year and it still proves to be a hit in spite of the recent reports of the successor, the second gen Moto 360 possible landing soon. In contrast, LG’s first watch, the LG G Watch has already been removed from the Google Store and with the LG Watch Urbane the flavor of the month, it seems the LG G Watch R has also now been removed from the Google Store.

Anyone heading over to the Google Store today will see that the LG G Watch R is no longer being listed as available to buy. In fact, the Google Store now states that it is “This product is unavailable in your country.” Therefore, it is assumed that for now, it is likely to be available in select regions. However, as of now, the U.S. is not one of those regions. This follows on from when the G Watch R saw a permanent price drop down from $299 to $249 directly from LG and on the Google Store. This price drop was only in April and seems was the precursor for the device being removed only six weeks later. As such, if you are after an LG smartwatch from the Google Store, it looks like the LG Watch Urbane is likely to be your only option going forward.
