There have been rumors about a possible change of strategy from companies suggesting that their release cycles might change and launch other flagship devices in the fall to compete with the new iPhones. What Samsung used to do was to release their Galaxy S device on Spring and then a Galaxy Note device on the Fall, but it has been recently discussed that a follow-up to the Galaxy S6 may be released as well or even that the launch of the new Galaxy Note could be a little sooner. LG is rumored to do something similar, possibly with a phone made out of metal while Sony seems to have adjusted their 6-month release cycle for their flagships this year. Still, the question remains as how much could these companies change in 6 months to make consumers want the new devices.
A lot was expected from this year’s HTC flagship as the company has been releasing beautifully crafted devices and their Sense UI is still a very good customizations of the Android OS. They introduced the One M9, and while it isn’t a bad device by any means, some were disappointed that the industrial design looks a lot like the one from its predecessor and that the screen was not upgraded, again, none of these features are exactly bad, but a lot of hype was created around this phone and it failed to impress. The main camera no longer uses the UltraPixel technology, thus being upgraded from 4-megapixel to a 20.7-megapixel sensor, but its performance was not that great in low-light conditions.
Soon after, HTC debuted the One M9+ with an upgraded screen both increasing its size and its resolution and even including features like a fingerprint scanner while bringing back the DuoCamera combined with the newer 20.7-megapixel sensor. This phone hasn’t been released everywhere, but it is supposed to become available in some EU countries in Q3. Now, information from some of the most famous leaksters about a possible new device. @evleaks suggested on Twitter that a new phone known as HTC Aero will be released in Q4 and @upleaks commented that this phone is “really awesome”. New phones by this year’s end have been suggested by HTC’s new CEO Cher Wang, but not precisely a flagship, which is supposed to be redesigned and include innovative features. We’ll have to wait and see how these strategies turn out.
