The talk of Android updating has been impossible to avoid over the last year. Although, each year sees devices receiving a number of updates, the last year has felt different thanks to the introduction of Android 5.0 (Lollipop). This has been considered to be one of the biggest update changes to the android operating system in a long time and as a result, many users quickly became fixated on when their update would land. In a similar fashion, manufacturers and carriers have also been equally fixated on trying (or at least convincing their users they are ) to push the Lollipop update out to their devices.
Well, since the initial Lollipop update, the follow-on updates are coming along nicely. The next major update has already been announced as Android M and devices are already beginning to get their 5.1 Lollipop updates already. Just this morning came the news that A&T were beginning their update for the Nexus 6 to Android 5.1.1. Likewise, this morning also saw reports coming in that T-Mobile were beginning their rollout of Android 5.1.1 to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Another device, which might receive its Android 5.1.1 update soon enough, is the newly released LG G4. As this is a brand new device, LG would presumably want to push out the latest updates as soon as possible. Not to mention, the G4 came pre-loaded with Android 5.1 when it was released, so not a massive step up to go to 5.1.1.
Well, it now looks like one device which might not see an update to Android 5.1 is the previous LG G device, the LG G3. Reports are coming in that LG’s Greek arm have confirmed on Twitter that there are no plans to upgrade the G3 to Android 5.1. Although, there is no specific reasoning as to why this is not happening, a consensus which is building suggests maybe the G3 will be held back so that it can jump straight to Android M as its next update. The logic being that there is little point in spending time, energy and money on upgrading to Android 5.1.1, when they can just upgrade to M soon(ish). Of course, none of the Android M suggestions have been confirmed by LG yet.
