We’ve been hearing about Nest more and more recently, and that could be due mostly to the unveiled press conference which Nest sent out invites for that is scheduled to take place on June 17th. The now Google-owned company specializing in connected home products started off with a smart thermostat and a smart smoke detector, later picking up Dropcam as of last year and also after having been acquired by Google themselves. Nest hasn’t had anything new though in some time, and they’re ripe for a lineup of new offerings. Speculations have already started that the upcoming press conference next week is going to be the launch pad for those announcements although nothing has been confirmed.
According to 9 To 5 Google those speculations may not be too far off, as people familiar with Nest plans for new product offerings state Nest has a new smart thermostat in the works as well as a refreshed version of the Nest Protect, and a new Dropcam wireless security camera. Alongside the refreshed product set, Nest is also said to be launching a new application with some visual tweaks to what’s currently available which unifies the management of these three products together in one, easy-to-use application. Just a couple of days ago a report was discovered over at the FCC which seemed to be referring to a new Dropcam device from Nest which was labeled as a “wireless camera” so it isn’t a shock to see these details come up now.
There isn’t really any definitive detail on any of these three products, aside from the fact they will all be able to talk to work closely with the new application for easy management, and that the new smart thermostat is supposedly going to be compatible with more HVAC systems. As of right now there is no way of knowing when Nest plans to announce these new products if they are in fact in the works, (which seems likely) but considering the timing of the event invites which was sort of a surprise as well as the fact that Nest is due for something new, chances are good that it could be next week.
