At Google’s I/O event last week, there were a number of announcements that were expected to be announced and were announced. These included the like of Android M, Android Pay and even the highly rumored Google Photos. However, there seemed an equal (if not more) number of announcements that were supposed to be announced and were not. In the weeks and months leading up to I/O, there were numerous reported coming through about the next generation of Glass. These included patents which had been filed highlighting differences in the design of the next model, as well as reports from the likes of the Luxottica CEO detailing the next generation was ready and coming soon.
As such, it was highly expected (with good reason) that Glass 2.0 would make an appearance at the event. Therefore, it was surprising that there was literally no mention of Glass at all. Almost as if it did not exist. Of course, it was not just Glass that ended up being a no-show at the event, but Glass was one of those which seemed to be prime and ready for its launch and so the timing would have been perfect.
On that point and although it now seems the wait for Glass 2.0 goes on, there are indications that the launch might still be closer than you think. A new job listing which has popped up, states that the Glass Team are looking for an “Advanced Technology Manufacturing Engineer, FATP.” While that might not mean that much to some people, the FATP is the important part here as it stands for “Final Assembly, Test and Pack”. This on its own, does go some way to suggesting Glass might be nearing its final stages for release. However, the job duties listed with the vacancy, further seem to suggest that bringing the device to market is an essential part of the job. In fact, as this does suggest Glass is in its final stages and preparing to ready for launch, if they are looking for someone to help with the launch, then maybe this goes some way to explaining why it might have been absent last week. Either way, if you think you fit the bit and can help bring Glass to market, then hit the source link below to apply.
