Samsung has unveiled the company new Galaxy S6 flagships during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona three months ago, but as you all know, one premium offering is still missing. This Korean tech giant still has to release the Galaxy Note 5 phablet, as they do every year. If Samsung plans to stick to their release schedule, and according to a Samsung executive they do, we can expect them to unveil the Note 5 in September during IFA in Berlin. We’ve already seen quite a few rumors regarding this phablet, and some fresh ones have now surfaced, read on.
According to a new info from China, Samsung’s next-gen phablet will sport a USB 3.1 Type-C port. The source says that this info actually comes from various Samsung employees which were rather vocal on Weibo apparently. Anyhow, it seems like more and more OEMs are starting to use Type-C port, Google’s latest Chromebook Pixel sports two of them, and Letv’s newest flagships feature one of these as well. The Type-C connector is able to support up to 100W power delivery, while the previous standard supported only up to 7.5W. This opens up a lot of possibilities as far as charge speed goes actually, and it will be interesting to see what will OEMs do with it in the end.
This is not the only piece information that surfaced in China. According to some additional info, the Galaxy Note 5 will feature the UFS 2.0 Flash Memory utilized in Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets. Furthermore, the report says that the Note 5 won’t sport the 4K display that has been mentioned several times now, but it will be able to output content to a 4K display thanks to the USB 3.1 connection.
That’s it as far as new info goes. It seems like the Note 5 won’t sport a 4K display, which was to be expected actually. The QuadHD panel will almost certainly be utilized in the Note 5, and even though we didn’t stumble upon much info regarding the phone’s build, it is safe to assume that Samsung will use metal this time around as well. It remains to be seen if the Note 5 will sport a metal unibody design (like the Galaxy S6 flagships), or will the company combine metal and plastic this time around as well.
