For some time now, Samsung has become known for releasing slightly upgraded versions of the current year’s Galaxy S flagship. This all started back with the Galaxy S4 when the company released a version of the Galaxy S4 with a Snapdragon 800, as oppose to the Snapdragon 600 that it launched with. Both the improved version of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 were dubbed LTE-A variants, and were mostly sold inside of South Korea. The Galaxy S5 LTE-A was something of a controversial launch for Samsung as it featured a Quad HD display versus the Full HD display that launched with the original Galaxy S5. Now, there are rumors of an upcoming Galaxy S6 Plus, and that it could arrive sooner than we originally though.
Some time ago, rumors started to surface that Samsung was working on something called Project Zen, which has now been apparently renamed to Project Zero 2, a reference to the original internal name given the Galaxy S6. Previously, it was thought that this version of the Galaxy S6 would feature an S-Pen, however this particular rumor has been quashed and Samsung have no plans for such a device. However, there’s word that the Galaxy S6 Plus will launch sometime this Summer, rather than during their regular IFA event they hold every year in Berlin. Such a device is said to feature a larger, 5.4-inch or 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display that’s curved at both edges just like the Galaxy S6 Edge. As such, it appears that Samsung is looking to build upon the good reception that the Galaxy S6 Plus has received so far.
What sounds a little bizarre is that the Galaxy S6 Plus is rumored to feature a Snapdragon 808 processor, rather than the Exynos 7420 that’s used in both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. We would be surprised to see that Samsung would be using the Snapdragon 808 after they had already seemingly proved that they can make a better big.LITTLE processor, but anything’s possible. As for the Galaxy Note 5, well, things seems to be right on track and no surprise rumors have sprung up just yet, but it definitely looks like Samsung isn’t done for 2015, far from it.
