Sony Calls Out Dirty Phones To Promote Xperia M4 Aqua

Sony’s phones have been known for their ability to withstand water for a while now, but with the Xperia M4 Aqua Sony is taking a little bit of different approach to alerting people to its waterproofing, by telling them how dirty their phones are, and that with the Xperia M4 Aqua, users could simply wash their phones to clean them up. Nifty right? Sony is promoting the waterproof ability of the M4 Aqua with a new website called dirtyphones.org which seems appropriate given the nature of what they’re trying to accomplish. Sony’s message here is two-fold, but also simple. One, the surface of our phones can be extremely filthy places, and two, if users owned the Xperia M4 Aqua, they could simply wash their device because it would stand up to the water.

Sony goes through explaining the method to their madness, as no one in their right mind would normally ever think about actually washing their phone. In Sony’s defense though, the Xperia M4 Aqua is a phone that you can in fact actually wash to clean it thanks to the IP68 waterproof rating, and the Xperia M4 Aqua is one of many phones in their lineup with this particular trait. To help further send this message, Sony tells us to “discover the M4 Aqua, the phone that can be washed.” Sony isn’t just making bold attempts to grab attention for one of their newest devices, they’re giving some interesting details too, like the fact that there are 25,000 germs per square inch on the average touch phone. That sounds quite dirty, even more so when you imagine what kind of germs those could be.

Among throwing around otherwise grimy details about our phones and where they’ve been, Sony provides you with a handy, if not fun way to determine how many germs may be on the surface of your own current device through what Sony is calling a Germ-o-Meter. This is a survey which asks a series of questions like “how often are you surrounded by people?” and “how often do you travel by public transportation?” The first and most important question of course, is whether or not you have a touch screen phone. Answering all the questions gives you a total score of how dirty and gross your device is, and you might be surprised to find out based on Sony’s little survey. Sony’s Xperia M4 Aqua isn’t the only waterproof device they sell as we noted above, but it is the main focus from their lineup with this particular campaign. If you’re looking to pick one of these up, you can still find them on Amazon for about $349.
