Smartbands and fitness trackers are all the rage at the moment. In fact, wearables of any kind and to be worn anywhere, seem to be increasingly growing in popularity. As such, it should not come as too much of a surprise that most (if not, literally all) the big manufacturers either offer a smartband, fitness tracker or something similar. For instance, only a couple of days ago saw Huawei launch their fitness tracker/Bluetooth headset, the TalkBand 2 in the U.S. Well, along with whoever else is planning to launch one this year, it seems Sony’s latest offering might soon be here too.
The Sony SmartBand 2 SWR12, as the name suggests is a follow-up to the first rendition, the Sony SmartBand. Now, to be clear, no official word has come from Sony about this fitness tracker and as such details are very limited. However, the SmartBand has been rumored to be arriving this year for quite some time. Well, if there was ever need for confirmation without an official configuration, then it looks like Sony has just provided it. This is, as Sony have now pushed the app which will be used in conjunction with the tracker to the Play Store and it comes with the neat picture above showing what is presumed to be the next generation Sony SmartBand.
The app listing for the SmartBand 2 (as it is labeled), does clearly state that this is “the official Sony application for SmartBand 2 SWR12”. As such, there can be little doubting that the smartBand 2 is en route. Unfortunately the app does not provide too much in-depth information as to what can be expected with the SmartBand 2. Although, the description (and the image above) do confirm that the SmartBand 2 will come with a heart rate sensor located on the bottom (inside) of the device. Not to mention, the description does also details that the wearable will have a ‘smart wakeup function’ which presumably will aid wakeups. Of course, the SmartBand 2 will also provide notifications on calls and social media alerts. The app is now live on the Play Store and presumably can be downloaded on most (if not all) devices, although, the description does read that the app is optimized to work with Xperia devices.
