On Tuesday, Sprint added its name to the growing list of US wireless carriers to offer rollover-data benefits on prepaid plans. The carrier will now rollover the unused data of its prepaid customers from one month to the next, in the process, allowing users to build up a data reserve of up to 30 GB with no expiration date for the rolled-over data. The offer is available exclusively at Best Buy, and is available to users opting for plans starting at $35 per month, which offers 1 GB data along with unlimited talk and text. The offer is also applicable on plans costing $45 and $55 per month, which offers 3 GB and 6 GB data respectively, along with unlimited talk and text. The carrier however stated that the offer is only a ‘limited time’ offer, although there’s no word on the deadline. The carrier is also offering to upgrade users’ prepaid phones to a new postpaid smartphone leasing plan after nine on-time payments with zero down payment and without credit check. That particular offer is also time-limited and available exclusively at Best Buy.
AT&T introduced rollover data plans to its GoPhone prepaid brand last month, but only offers the feature on its $45 and $60 plans, and T-Mobile’s Simple Choice prepaid customers get the feature only on data plans of 3 GB or above. Moreover, as mentioned, Sprint’s rollover data does not come with a use-by date, whereas unused rolled-over data on AT&T’s GoPhone plans and T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plans expires after 30 days and 12 months respectively. Sprint’s press release also says that users who have subscribed to its prepaid service at Best Buy on or before May 31st, will not automatically get the benefits of rollover data. They’ll have to ‘affirmatively migrate’ to one of the eligible plans to get the feature activated on their prepaid plans.
Alongside the aforementioned announcement regarding the introduction of rollover data schemes, Sprint also introduced BoostTV service for its prepaid Boost Mobile brand. The service comes as a $10 live sports add-on that will allow users of select phones on Sprint’s Boost Mobile service to watch live sports events on-demand. The service can be subscribed through the BoostTV app.
