Today, Sprint has begun rolling out Android 5.1.1 to the LG G Flex 2. The LG G Flex 2 is LG’s second generation of their curved and flexible smartphone. This year it’s available on Sprint and AT&T, as well as US Cellular. It launched on Android 5.0, and is now getting its update to Android 5.1, at least on Sprint. The update shouldn’t be too big, and you likely won’t notice a whole lot. The Android 5.1 update is mostly a small bug fixer, but still brings in some nice features, and fixes. For those interested, the build number for the LG G Flex 2 on Sprint is LS996ZV6.
You can grab the update now via over the air update. Just head into Settings > General > About Phone > System Updates > Check for Updates and you should be able to pull down the update. Make sure you’re on WiFi, as it will likely be quicker. Also, Sprint sometimes likes to only push out updates over WiFi for a few days. Sprint has yet to detail the full changelog for the update, we should be seeing that rather soon though. Especially since the update is already rolling out. So keep an eye out on Sprint’s support site for the details.
The LG G Flex 2 has a 5.5-inch 1080p Plastic OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor inside along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (there is a 3GB and 32GB model, but Sprint’s model is the 2GB of RAM model). There’s also a 13MP camera on the back with laser auto-focus, which makes for taking some pretty nice shots. Sprint also has the exclusive on the red color here in the US, which looks really nice. When we reviewed the LG G Flex 2, we noticed some issues with it overheating as well as being slow. Hopefully LG has fixed those issues with the LG G Flex 2 in this update. Although there’s only so much they can do. As we do know – from using other devices – that the Snapdragon 810 has all kinds of heat issues.
