Xiaomi Partners Up With The Weather Channel

Xiaomi is currently the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, and third in the world. Considering the fact that this company is very young (founded in 2010), and the fact that they do business only in Asia (as far as smartphone sales go), this is really staggering. Xiaomi has a huge appetite for success, they’ve managed to sell 61 million smartphones last year, and are hoping to improve upon that this year. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer plans to open up an assembly plant in India soon, and also start selling their smartphones in Brazil.

That being said, we’ve just received some official info regarding the company’s weather app of choice. As Xiaomi is growing and expanding outside of China, they’re looking for additional partners in order to help them with the transition. Well, Xiaomi has partnered up with The Weather Channel, and will start receiving weather info from that company (on all devices outside of China) going forward. Some of you might know that Accuweather was providing such info thus far, but the company has now partnered up with The Weather Channel, and you’ll see some changes in that area.

“Xiaomi is one of the hottest mobile companies on the planet right now, selling thousands of Android devices in seconds online through its e-commerce model. Working with Xiaomi is essential to our global growth plans as we look to provide the most precise and useful weather to users anywhere in the world,” said David Kenny, chairman and CEO of The Weather Company, parent to The Weather Channel brand. Donovan Sung, Director of Product Management at Xiaomi Global added the following: “We are always seeking to provide a great user experience on MIUI. Working with The Weather Channel allows us to give global Mi phone users the weather information they need while on the go.”

There you have it folks, The Weather Channel is Xiaomi’s new partner, and you’ll be seeing that app used by the company’s Android-powered devices launched outside of China. Xiaomi is making a push to other markets, and it will certainly be interesting to see what’s their next step. We’ll let you know as soon as we get some extra info, stay tuned.
