There has been a spate of leaks about certain Xiaomi devices of late. The Chinese smartphone vendor is said to be prepping the launch of its mid-range Redmi Note 2 phablet sometime later this quarter. The company’s next generation flagship, the Mi 5 meanwhile, is scheduled to launch later this year – in November to be precise. Now, however, two more images have leaked from two separate sources, both of which claim to belong to Xiaomi’s upcoming phones. The funny thing is, with all the ‘leaks’ that are popping up seemingly every other day, very few actually show off the front of the devices while powered-on. While the Mi 5 obviously won’t nearly be production ready right now, the Redmi Note 2 quite likely is. However, the back covers are all what we currently have to chew on right now.
The first image is supposedly of the back of the Xiaomi Mi 5, with a dual camera setup. Of course, the dual cameras also come with dual flash, which is probably a given on flagship devices anyway. Of course just a couple of ago, there was more leaks about the Mi 5, published on mainstream Chinese websites which did not seem to indicate anything about a dual camera set-up. Those leaks, however, did claim the phone will ship with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset. Which will hopefully be free from the heat related issues plaguing the Snapdragon 810 currently. Anyways, as for the latest ‘leak’, take it for what it’s worth. There is no way of knowing whether there’s even an iota of truth in this or if the entire thing is made up by somebody with decent Photoshop skills.
Coming to the second ‘leak’, the photograph is said to belong to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and it was posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. We’ve already seen multiple alleged images of the back cover claiming to be of the same device since late last year. Just some days ago, another so-called Redmi Note 2 image had popped up on Chinese social media, which looked similar to the current image, with the same positioning of the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor. However, in a major departure from that image, the current one seems to indicate the presence of the audio grill on the back of the device. It’s hard to tell if either one is real, but with the launch not very far off, hopefully, clearer and more evident leaks will emerge.
