When your job entails hazardous areas such as construction, it can be difficult bringing a smartphone to the job site. While there are plenty of cases that state and at times prove very durable against drops and spills, select consumers may be looking for a smartphone that can handle their daily lifestyles and careers without the added expense to accessories. This is where the Cat S40 comes into play. Caterpillar announced their new rugged smartphone today which will be a handset that can handle well within extreme conditions. If something like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active won’t cut it, then perhaps the Cat S40 is your next best option.
Caterpillar is a well-known company especially in terms of construction. Today we’re learning of their new smartphone which was made to be extremely rugged but also allows the necessary elements of a smartphone while on the job. For instance, the body of the Cat S40 is very durable and can handle a drop of 1.8m or 6-ft. Featuring a 4.7-inch qHD Super Bright Display that’s covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, consumers won’t have to worry about the smartphone display easily being scratched up. Furthermore, the display also includes Glove-on and wet finger-tracking. What this essentially means, is that you won’t have to worry about taking off your gloves to use the device nor will wet fingers cause any problems when swiping through the phone.
Cracking open the device you will find that the Cat S40 is being powered by a quad-core 1.1GHz Snapdragon 210 processor along with 1GB of RAM. Internal storage is only 16GB however, consumers can bump that up to a total of 64GB thanks to the microSD card slot. Attached is a non-removable 3000mAh battery while the handset also features an 8-megapixel rear facing camera whereas the front holds a 2-megapixel camera. Caterpillar also noted that the Cat S40 is IP68 and Military Standard 810G certified so the handset will be able to survive within 1m of water along with being shock and dust proof. Consumers can start picking up the Cat S40 on August 1st when it launches in a reported sixty countries. As for pricing, the Cat S40 will cost you about $399 and it will launch in the States later this year.
