Chinese manufacturers started making phones with the Android operating system as affordable alternatives to some of the better-known brands. Suddenly, their specs got much better and their build quality got upgraded with the use of premium materials and now, they are not as inexpensive as they once were, but they are indeed competitive products as they have been getting thinner profiles and very reduced bezels around their displays. The Meizu MX5 is an example of a phone with good specs and a solid build quality at a very reasonable price. On the other hands, the Elephone P8000 is a very affordable phone that offers good specs for that price range.
Both of these phones include a 5.5-inch display with Full-HD resolution, but the MX5 uses AMOLED technology and the P8000 uses and IPS LCD, they also include octa-core processors with 3 GB of RAM, but the processor in the MX5 is faster. On the camera department, once again, the MX5 wins the battle as it includes a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back while the P8000 includes one with a 13-megapixel sensor, both include 5-megapixel front facing cameras, though. The battery included in the P8000 has a much larger capacity at 4,200 mAh compared to the one found on the MX5, which has 3,150 mAh, also, both handsets include fingerprint scanners. From these specs, one could see that why the MX5 is priced higher than the P8000, but also the design and hardware elements of the former stand-out as it is made of aluminum that has been treated for a nice look and feel and the bezels on the sides of the screen are very reduced, while the P8000 features a metallic frame and a removable textured back and its aesthetics are more questionable.
There’s a video that compares these two phones as they both are running Meizu’s Flyme 4.5 on top of Android, although more ROMs may be installed on the P8000. First, they compare the quality of the screens, and it can be seen that the MX5 offers better saturation and contrast provided by its display technology. Then, the fluidity of the OS is compared, and both perform quite good. Temperature is compared after playing some graphic intense games during 10 minutes and the P8000 is about 2°C cooler. On the speaker-test, the one on the MX5 is a little louder and finally, they justify the increased weight of the P8000 due to the larger battery.
