Google Nexus 7 (2013) Gets Android 5.1.1 Update

We had seen some rumors that the Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 7 2013 WiFi would be coming out rather soon and it’s finally here. It’s here as build LMY48G, and we have the download link down below as well, so that you can sideload it onto your device. For those on the LMY47V build, this is still the same version number, just a slightly newer build. Judging by the build, it appears to have been built the day after the previous update. So this is likely just all about bug fixes for the Nexus 7 2013 WiFi. The update is pretty small, weighing in at about 18MB.

Reports of the previous update – build LMY47V – bricked a lot of Nexus 7 2013’s so that if your’s isn’t bricked, you’re pretty lucky. And hopefully this update won’t brick your Nexus 7 2013. So far we haven’t heard anything about it bricking the device this time around.

If you want to sideload the update on your device keep reading. If you already know how to sideload, feel free to jump down to the bottom and grab the OTA download.

To sideload, you’ll want to be sure you have the Android SDK installed on your computer. Then plug in your device, and open up a command prompt inside the “platform-tools” folder. Now type “adb devices” in the command prompt and make sure your device appears. If it doesn’t, you may need to switch to PTP or vice versa. Next up you’re going to type “adb reboot bootloader” and your device is going to reboot into the bootloader. Now press the volume down button until you get to recovery and press power. Now you’ll see an Android guy with an exclamation mark. To get past this just press Volume Up and Power together, Now you are in recovery. Press Volume Down and highlight, “apply update from ADB” and press power. Now back on your computer, type “adb sideload <file name here>”. Let the update sideload onto your device and in a few minutes you should be updated. Allow it to reboot and you should be good to go.
