Verizon Wireless seems to be on a roll with software updates today. Usually, Wednesdays are filled with updates from Google on handfuls of their various apps, but on this particular Wednesday in July, Verizon has been making the rounds sending out updates to a collection of their devices. Earlier, DROID Turbo owners began seeing their jump from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android 5.1 Lollipop which was announced by Verizon Wireless yesterday after Motorola announced the soak test a day earlier. Alongside the DROID Turbo, Verizon started pushing the OTA update for Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, and now it looks like they’re sending out an update for their variant of the Motorola Nexus 6.
This brings the Nexus 6 on Verizon Wireless up to software version LMY47Z, which is effectively Android 5.1.1, and now brings Verizon’s Nexus 6 in line with some of the other variants that are already on this version build of the software. Now, before you get all excited and jump for joy over brand new software, keep in mind there isn’t anything monumental in tow here. This is strictly a small update which only seeks to bring in stability improvements and bug fixes to better the user experience and better the performance of the device. Having said that, bug fixes and improvements are still important because they can make the overall user experience much better and ultimately that’s the goal isn’t it?
Updates usually take a few days before they reach all devices on the network, so it may still take through the weekend before everyone sees it, however, it’s entirely possible all Nexus 6 owners on Verizon will see the jump to this build before the day is out. If you haven’t seen the update come through to your device on its own, you can check for the software update manually by heading into the settings menu, navigating to about phone and then finally into software updates. If you’re in no rush to see the update come through, you can simply wait for the alert to show up on its own time which shouldn’t be too far from now.
