Huawei to Meet Target of Shipping 100 Million Smartphones

While some manufacturers appear to be struggling in the pursuit of growth in the competitive smartphone space, this doesn’t seem to be a problem for Huawei. An established Chinese brand, Huawei is apparently now the fourth-largest smartphone manufacturer on the planet and unlike last year, they are firmly on schedule to meet their improved target of shipping 100 Million smartphones in 2015. Or at least, this is according to information obtained from a memo by Reuters.

Last year, Huawei fell short of their target of shipping 80 Million smartphones, by just 5 Million. This year however, the firm looks set to reach their target of shipping 100 Million units, and are in fact ahead of schedule. According to Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO of the Consumer Business Group, Huawei has been selling 10 Million phones a month since May and are ahead of schedule. The company has also said that they will achieve “effective growth” in 2015. In a market where Chinese stalwarts such as Huawei and ZTE are facing stiff competition from not only Xiaomi but also upstarts like UMi, Ulefone, IUNI and many more, it’s surprising to see Huawei reach a target larger than the one they couldn’t meet last year.

Huawei has proven itself to be a quality handset manufacturer with devices like the Huawei P8 (featured above) and have taken the fight to Xiaomi through their Honor brand of devices. It’s not just at home in China where Huawei are enjoying some success. They’ve expanded the Honor line to Europe, with networks like Three in the UK offering the Honor 6 Plus, and they’ve recently launched new devices in North America. While they might reach the target of 100 Million smartphones this year, Huawei will definitely have their work cut out for them next year and beyond, as Xiaomi’s global expansion looms heavy over the likes of Huawei and Lenovo, two Chinese manufacturers holding on at the top of ladder. Having said that, anyone still has work to do if they want to come close to taking over from Samsung in the Android world, but with encouraging sales like these, it’s good to see that at least someone is enjoying success.
