Indian smartphone vendor Lava is prepping to launch a new smartphone named the Iris X5 4G. The device has showed up on GFXBench database with a 4.6-inch screen, even though this particular device has previously been strongly rumored to feature a 5-inch display. Rumor has it that this would be the next Android One offering from Lava. The company was one of the three original partners for Google, when the California-based company launched its Android One program last year in India, with Micromax and Karbonn being the other two. While the GFXBench listing gives us a fair idea about a few of the hardware specs of the upcoming device, we’ll have to wait for Lava to make the smartphone official to get more details about it.
According to the listing, the Lava Iris X5 4G features a 4.6-inch 720p display. The device will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6735 SoC, which comes with an integrated quad-core CPU clocked at 1.3 GHz and a Mali-T720 GPU. The handset will come with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage, which can be further extended via a microSD card. As is expected with Android One devices, it would come with the latest flavor of Android, which is 5.1 Lollipop. The device will come with a 13 megapixel primary camera on the rear and either an 8 or a 5 megapixel secondary camera on the front. As for connectivity options, the name of the smartphone makes it abundantly clear that it would launch with 4G LTE connectivity. The device will also support 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.
Seeing as this will be an Android One device, it would probably be a safe bet to expect a truckload of sensors including GPS, Compass, Proximity, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient Light etc. The device will also come with native dual-SIM support, seeing as it will come pre-loaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop. Even though dual-SIM devices have been the order of the day in markets like India and China, Google only made the feature natively available in AOSP with the introduction of Android 5.1 Lollipop earlier this year. While we still don’t have any idea about the device’s battery capacity, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long to find out, as Lava is said to be looking at a launch sooner than later. The device is said to be priced at around the Rs. 12,000 ($190) mark, which would probably be slightly on the higher side considering the hardware on offer, but the inherent Android One promise of timely firmware updates is priceless.
