Google has launched their Android One project in India last year. Since then, Android One has spread to a number more countries, though the sales number aren’t exactly as high as predicted. What is Android One? Well, Google basically partners up with various manufacturers and gets them to manufacture a smartphone which will then be equipped with stock Android. That way, Google has the control over the software, and can push updates regularly, does not depend on OEMs. All of the Android One handsets that were announced thus far are really affordable, and it seems like another one is on the way.
Last month a rumor surfaced saying that Google intends to announce a new Android One handset on July 14th, but that didn’t happen. Well, it seems like that will happen on July 27th, and Lava will be the manufacturer of the upcoming Android One device. Lava is an India-based smartphone OEM, and they were actually rumored to be working on a new Android One handset last month. Well, the company has sent out invitations for the July 27th event, and the arrival of Android One handset is quite obvious at the point. As you can see in the provided image, Lava clearly says ‘Witness the Power of THE ONE’, which clearly points out the upcoming Android One handset.
The listing of Lava’s Android One handset appeared last month, and the device will reportedly going to be called ‘Lava Iris X5 4G’. This smartphone will reportedly sport a 4.6-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. The device will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6735 quad-core SoC running at 1.3GHz, and Android 5.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here. The 13-megapixel camera will be located on the back of this phone, and on the front you’ll find either a 5 or 8-megapixel snapper. This handset will offer 4G LTE connectivity, as its name states. We still don’t know how much will it cost, but you can expect it to be really affordable, some rumors have been hinting at a $188 price, but we’ll see. Stay tuned for more details, we’ll probably see a leak or two before the device launches on July 27th.
