LG's 2015 Nexus to be based off an Unreleased Prototype

We’ve been hearing lots of rumors about the Nexus 5 (2015) being built by LG, and it looks like we’ve got another rumor coming out today about it. According to Android Pit, the company will be making the device, however it will not be based off of the LG G4 like most expected. Instead, the device will be based off of an unreleased prototype. Perhaps it’ll be based off of that LG G4 Pro we heard about?

LG has made a few Nexus devices for Google in the past, including the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, and it looks like Google has decided to use LG to make a third Nexus, and the second Nexus 5. We’re all pretty much assuming that the Nexus 5 (2015) is going to be smaller than the Nexus 6 due to its name, but so far, we have no concrete proof. Just rumors that it’ll be around 5.1 or 5.2-inches, with Huawei making the larger 5.7-inch Nexus device. Which could be modeled after the Huawei Ascend Mate lineup, which has done pretty well for Huawei.

In the past, Nexus devices have been modeled after the manufacturer’s flagship device. The Nexus 4 was modeled after the Optimus G, with the Nexus 5 being the LG G2. And the Nexus 6 being modeled after the Moto X. So it’ll be interesting to see what this Nexus 5 (2015) from LG will finally look like when all is said and done. We’ll likely see the finished product around October, as that is when Google typically announces the new line of Nexus hardware as well as the name for the new version of Android. Which we know will start with the letter M this time around. Bringing LG back in the fold for the Nexus line this year is a bit interesting, as they’ll be the only manufacturer to make 3 Nexus smartphones, with Samsung behind them with two (Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus). Although ASUS has made three Nexus products, the Nexus 7 2012, 2013 and Nexus Player which was announced last year. Either way, it’s going to be an exciting fall when it comes to Nexus and Android M, and we can’t wait to see what Google has in store for us.
