Motorola’s Moto G was a game changer by the time it got officially announced, it offered very good specs like a 4.5-inch display with HD resolution and a quad-core processor in a design that was focused on ergonomics and with the interchangeable back covers it featured some degree of hardware customization. Plus, the skin used by Motorola was one of the lightest on top of Android, so it is nearly a Nexus-like experience. Building upon that device, Motorola released the second-generation Moto G last year, upgrading some areas but still focusing on keeping the price low while increasing it a little bit.
The screen’s diagonal was increased to 5 inches while keeping the same resolution, it used the exact same processor as its predecessor, but it has proven to perform well. It offers 8 GB of internal storage, but a huge plus is that it offered expandable memory this time around thanks to the Micro SD card slot. The main camera was also upgraded to an 8-megapixel one with LED flash and the front-facing one also got more resolution at 2 megapixels. In terms of the design, it followed the steps of the second-generation Moto X that was announced at the same time with the same ergonomic design at the back and those metallic speaker grilles at the front, only one is the speaker, though. The Motorola shells also come in a variety of colors, if you don’t like its looks when it comes out of the box.
Now, the second-generation Moto G is getting a price cut in India, it now costs Rs. 9,999, which is about $157. That may be to clear out some units before the new Moto G gets announced, which according to the amount of leaks from that device, it shouldn’t be too far away. It could also be to compete with some devices that cost less but offer similar specs, mainly from Chinese manufacturers like Lenovo or Xiaomi, or even the Indian manufacturer Micromax has some handsets priced below offering similar performance. Let’s not forget that some handsets of the Android One initiative can be purchased there and while their specs don’t quite match the ones of the Moto G, they cost about half of it under this price cut.
