Samsung is said to be contemplating cleaning up its chaotic nomenclature as regards its smartphone line-up at the mid and entry-level segments. With a view to doing just that, the company is said to be transitioning to three separate lines of handsets under the Galaxy A, E and J monikers alongside the flagship S series. As for the Galaxy A lineup, the most feature rich of the series seems to be the upcoming Galaxy A8, which has already had its hardware specs revealed in a number of leaks over the past few weeks. It even had a hands-on video and several hands-on images leaked on the net not so long ago, even though the South Korean manufacturer is yet to take the wraps off of the device officially.
Now yet another new leak has sprung up about the device whereby, the previously leaked specs seem to get confirmed. This time around, the source of the leak is Malaysia, where the country’s standards bureau SIRIM (formerly the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) has reportedly cleared the Galaxy A8 for sale in the country. What we’re dealing with here is an out-of-focus, low resolution image – either a marketing brochure or the package itself – which has surfaced on Malaysian website Mdroid.my. According to the image, the device will have an MSRP of 1,888 Malaysian Ringgit, which is almost exactly $500. You can see the image at the bottom of this post.
As for the hardware specifications of the Galaxy A8, the new image reinforces what we already know from all the previous leaks thus far. According to the image, the device will feature a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, and will be powered by a chip with an octa-core processor clocked at a frequency of 1.8 GHz. Rumor has it, the chip will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC. The smartphone will come with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, which can be extended by up to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card. The device is also said to feature a 16 megapixel ISOCELL camera on the rear and a 5 megapixel shooter on the front. The smartphone will come with a 3,050 mAh battery, and will be 5.9 mm in thickness. It will weigh 151 grams and measure 158.0 x 76.8 mm in size. The smartphone will come with a fingerprint scanner, and run on Android 5.1 Lollipop out the box with Samsung’s very own TouchWiz interface on top.
