Galaxy A8's New ISOCELL 16MP Camera To Have Smaller Pixels

Samsung’s upcoming mid-range Galaxy A8 smartphone has already seen its hardware specifications leaked on the net, along with a hands-on video. While the South Korean company is expected to launch the device fairly soon, we already have an idea about most aspects of the upcoming device. One of the aspects of the phone that some in the media have found interesting, is the presence of a 16 megapixel camera sensor at the rear, even though the device is only said to be 5 mm in thickness. If true, it will be Samsung’s thinnest device ever, so how did Samsung manage to shoehorn the 16 megapixel sensor into the ultra-thing smartphone?

The answer to that question now seems to have been answered with some further available information, which says the camera sensor on the Galaxy A8 can afford to fit within a body so thin, as it uses smaller 1.0 µm pixels (1 micrometer = one thousandth of one millimeter), as opposed to usual sensors of the same size, which come with larger 1.2 µm pixels, which gives images more clarity by capturing more light, and reducing noise. So while the smaller pixels will probably result in slightly lowered picture quality, it has allowed Samsung to put the larger sensor into the ultra-slim Galaxy A8, which will, in all probability, make up for the disadvantages of the reduced pixel size. As for the camera itself, the phone will come with Samsung’s ISOCELL (LSI3P3) camera sensor in lieu of the Sony IMX240 sensor found in Samsung’s flagship devices like the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 4.

As for other hardware specifications of the device, the Galaxy A8 will feature a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED capacitive display, with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset, with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 1.4 GHz, and an Adreno 405 GPU. The device will have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB or internal storage, and will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz interface laid on top. The Galaxy A8 will carry a 3,050 mAh battery, and come with LTE connectivity. The smartphone will be offered for sale in three different colors – Pearl White, Midnight Black and Champagne Gold.
