T-Mobile's Family Plans Get Amped!

T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere Tweeted a picture of a Red popsicle this morning, as a hint at what Uncarrier Amped was going to be this week. And a few minutes later he started ranting about Verizon’s Family plans. After having done some research last week on family plans, none of them are as cut and dry as we’d like them to be. They are all pretty confusing. However, today T-Mobile is amping up their Family plans. And if you have kids, that use a ton of data, I think you’re going to like this new plan.

Now, you can get 10GB of data for each line for just $30 per line. So that means unlimited talk, text and 10GB of data for each line for only $30. However, if you are only doing two lines, it’ll be $50 each. For $100, that’s not a bad plan at all. For $120, you can get four lines of 10GB each. Along with that, you do get the new Mobile Without Borders that was announced last week. So you can roam in Canada and Mexico on 4G LTE instead of EDGE like the other 120+ countries, for free. For those on the promotional family plans and legacy family plans, you’ll need to pay $10 per month for the whole account.

T-Mobile is celebrating this new Uncarrier Amped move by allowing customers to get the fourth line for free, with no expiration data. So you can move to this new family plan and only have to pay for three lines, and get four lines. That’s pretty insane. Especially considering it’ll be free forever.

“It’s no surprise Verizon’s spent what looks to be over $100 million in just two months promoting an $80 data plan with 10GB everyone has to share. The catch is, it’s not actually an $80 plan. You can’t actually use any of that data until you pay additional ‘line access’ fees for data you’ve already bought,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “So, when they say $80, they actually charge a family of four at least $140. And that’s to share10GB. Leave it to Verizon to push a plan that gives you a pile of data you can’t use unless you fork over more in hidden fees.”

While Legere does say that the $80 per month for 10GB of data on Verizon isn’t the full price. Neither is the $100 or $120 for the family plans at T-Mobile. There is also the EIP, unless you buy your phone in full at T-Mobile or somewhere else. So that you could end up paying another $30 per line for your phone, depending on what phone you get. So just keep that in mind when you’re shopping for this plan tomorrow. It does start tomorrow, July 15th, for those wondering. Same with Mobile Without Borders.
